- Meloncat Hair & Spice Girl Platforms: The Unexpected Chanel Cruise Collection
A combination of Marie Antoinette, ’90s silhouettes including raver pants and platform shoes, meloncat hair, and Japanese anime seems like it would mix as well as oil and water… But, somehow, the Chanel cruise ’12 collection pulled it off! Pretty, origami pleats, watercolor prints, sticker-like flowers, half-precious/half-bondage costume jewelry, and new takes on the Chanel tweed (appearing in the forms of royal waistcoats and scarves) made the offerings a bit more challenging than Karl Lagerfeld’s others, but not so ridiculous that we couldn’t imagine anyone wearing the pieces outside of the Palais (in fact, we’d like to wear ‘em — hand it over!). Aside from the shoes that made all the models look like they were wearing nude pantyhose or were on their way to basketball practice with the Spice Girls, the pieces displayed that sort of couture-season bravura that’s not often seen in a cruise collection. Click through for all 71 looks from the very pretty runway!

- Someone Get DJ Chelsea Leyland A Scrunchie!
Believe it or not, it’s been 30 years — an entire generation — since GUESS’ original, three-zip Marilyn jean put their mark on fashion forever. To celebrate, the brand is going back to its roots with a new campaign featuring the star of its classic ads, Claudia Schiffer, and releasing a limited-edition line of updates on their iconic pieces. To join in the festivities, we snapped 30 of our favorite fashionable friends wearing the vintage-inspired 30th anniversary collection and asked them what GUESS means to them. Thirty women, 30 days, 30 sexy years of GUESS.
For more about the collection and GUESS’ 30th birthday, go to www.GUESS1981.com.
Name: Chelsea Leyland
Ten-second bio: “I moved to NYC from London at 19 to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute. I always had a passion for music (I went to an arts school in England), so after acting in a few indie films, I learned to DJ and shortly got hired for some amazing events. The first fashion event I DJed was for The Last Magazine. I’ve also DJed for Valentino, Burberry, Vogue, Fendi, and Missoni, but my career highlight was opening for Duran Duran.”
Favorite ‘80s memory: “Ummmm, VHS? I wasn’t really around in the ‘80s — I was two!”
Favorite GUESS memory: “Eeeek! Again, I was wearing diapers.”
Favorite returning ‘80s fashion trend: “Scrunchies!”
30 YR Retro Tee, $39, available at Guess.

- Dreaming of exotic places
Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion careers & casting calls / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures
Luciana Val and Franco Musso’s shoot for Vogue Turkey harks back to a time when travel was an exotic and glamorous affair. And while vintage photo filters can give anything these days an air of fabricated nostalgia, Val & Musso’s shoot earns its right to give you a severe case of Golden Age thinking.
Sebastian Kaufmann’s styling takes current season pieces and makes them feel like they’ve been pulled straight from the 1930s or ’40s. Crop tops paired with high waisted shorts find their match with ethnic inspired accessories giving a nod to another era’s fascination with the exotic.

- Geek Chic: Fashion Inspired by Lost
Photo credit Previously, on Geek Chic… We covered superheroes and hobbits and physicists (oh my!), but we’ve yet to discuss one of the most obsession-inducing television shows ever: LOST. For six seasons, this program about a group of survivors stranded on a mysterious island after a plane crash kept viewers on the edge of their [...]
- Peter and Harry Brant on Doing a Reality TV Show, Being Like Hannah Montana, and Climbing Palazzo Walls
At Thursday night’s event celebrating Jitrois’ new pop-up store in SoHo (which is super chic and inviting, btw) I had the pleasure of talking to the hosts of the night: Brothers Peter and Harry Brant, who you may know as “the world’s luckiest teenage homosexuals” (according to Gawker, anyway).
Indeed, there’s no doubting that Peter, who is 18, and Harry, who is 15, lead charmed lives. The sons of billionaire Peter Brant and legendary supermodel Stephanie Seymour, the brothers are lacking neither in looks, style, or money. Despite their youth, they’ve travelled the world, rubbed shoulders with some serious VIPs–and they’ve got a boatload of hilarious anecdotes to show for it.

- Bondage, the Japanese way
Posted in Fashion / Fashion blog / Fashion photo shoots / Fashion pictures
Japanese Bondage is an aesthetic art. Beyond its sexual connotations there’s a beauty in the symmetry of the knot-tying, the intricate patterns of the ropes, in the positions of the one being bound. It’s no wonder this art, known as Kinbaku or Shibari, has become a favourite for photographers looking to tap into something both erotic and visually beautiful. A match made in heaven, this latest one teams model Taryn Andreatta with photographer Nicolas Guerin.

- Best Dressed: Rachel Bilson in Chanel, Alexa Chung in Carven and More
Believe it or not, there was a little glamour to be found outside of Cannes this week. Rachel Bilson made a welcome return to the red carpet at The CW upfronts in Chanel (and, yes, Heart of Dixie has been picked up for a second season). Kristen Stewart has been looking good, if painfully awkward [...]
